I love Three UK, I really do. Despite them not complying with the UK Distance Selling regulations fully, I like the network, and the Twitter teams are really nice people.

UK Distance Selling Regulations

March 22nd, 2012 | Posted by Kevin Wright in Features - (4 Comments)

As a lot of you know, I am a bit of a fan of the DSR, and use it quite often. Despite what some of you may think, its my view I don’t abuse it. In general, everything I order, including my 4th new iPad later tonight is ordered with the intention of keeping it, or indeed selling it on, usually at a loss.

A while back, some of you will recall I had a run in with Three UK, as I believed they were (and still are) not complying with the law as it stands, and I promised to get back to you if I had further information. Before I get to that, let me say two things. First, I absolutely love Three UK. I still recommend them to all my friends and family, and both myself and Jackie are on a contract with them. Before you read this, you may want to read, or reread the posts I wrote a while back. First, then this one, and this final one

Next, most of the information here is provided by someone very conversant with the current UK law, and in his or her own words in an extensive email exchange, ” just call me a Trading Standards source” and I am going to have to ask you to trust me when I say this person knows exactly what they are talking about. The only reason for not naming him or her, is that I promised I would not reveal their identity, as I believed that would lead to a more open reply. I do want to make it clear however that I do have permission to quote them here, as this makes clear “You are welcome to use extracts from the material or report on what my view is”

I do understand that it is vital you the reader believes that the source is credible, and I wish I could name them, but I will say that Nick Robinson, my co-host and co-owner of TTUK has seen the full original email (again with permissions) and can at least vouch for the persons relevance if required. new iPad thoughts

I was among the first people to order the new iPad, in fact I ordered two of them, one for me, and one for Jackie, or if it turned out she did not want it, I could sell it on for a little profit if there was a shortage, or help one of you lot out. Sadly, it did not turn out that way, and both of the iPad arrived with faults, albeit, in some eyes the faults would have been questioned. The first one had a faulty button, you could tell as soon as you pressed it, and we all know how the button is probable the weakest point of any iDevice. I spent most of the first day trying to convince myself that I could live with it, but lets face it, it was never gonna happen.  (more…)
